Kellogg et al

'Superoxide involvement in the bactericidal effects of negative air ions on Staphylococcus albus '  was published in 1979 in what is arguably the world's most prestigious scientific journal.

Although later research has broadened the view that superoxide is the only microbicidal agent involved (see, for example, the Shargawi paper cited under Dental scientific papers), Kellogg's work retains its status as one of the first authoritative demonstrations of the power of gaseous anions to destroy micro-organisms.
